For Brett, art is a way to share the things he loves, connect with people and create something unmistakably his own.
“Who else will like my art when they see it in the exhibition?”
It is something Brett often wonders when one of his latest creations goes on display.
After 20 years at Unisson’s Blue Apple Art Studio, there have been plenty of opportunities to find out.
Across two decades, Brett has developed his skills, explored new ideas and built a creative practice that is distinctly his own. Along the way, Blue Apple has also become a place of familiar faces, friendships and shared creativity.
But it is when Brett works with clay that his eye for detail really comes to life.
His inspiration often comes from the everyday things he enjoys. A KFC meal. A Pepsi can. Familiar objects recreated carefully in clay, with Brett paying close attention to the details that make each piece instantly recognisable.
There is personality in his work because there is personality in what he chooses to create.

Some of Brett’s most meaningful pieces are made with someone else in mind.
He enjoys creating ceramics for family and friends, thinking about the person as he works and making something specifically for them.
Art has also created opportunities for Brett that extend well beyond the studio.
A big admirer of artist and author Anh Do, Brett once created a portrait of him from paper pulp. He later had the opportunity to meet Anh and present the portrait to him himself, turning something. Brett had created in the studio into a memorable personal experience.
Then there are the connections built much closer to home.
After 20 years, Brett has longstanding friendships at Blue Apple. He enjoys catching up with other artists, sharing ideas, seeing what they are working on and enjoying the creative process together.

Still Creting 🌈
Twenty years is an extraordinary milestone.
But Brett’s story isn’t really about looking backwards.
He is still creating. Still experimenting. Still making pieces for people he cares about. And when exhibition time comes around, he is still interested in one very important thing: what people think when they stop to look at something he has made.
There is something powerful in that moment.
An idea that began with Brett is now out in the world for someone else to experience.
20 years of creativity friendship and finding bis own artistic voice. And Brett is still wondering what be might create next.
