“I’ve always been a huge fan of his music, so the excitement felt unreal.”
For Keira, seeing Ed Sheeran live had been a dream for years. So, when the opportunity finally came to attend his concert in Sydney, it quickly became a bucket list moment she couldn’t wait to experience.
As thousands of fans streamed through the stadium gates, the excitement in the air was impossible to miss.
“You could feel the buzz in the air” Keira said. Keira shared how special it was that everyone was “just as excited as I was.”
When Ed Sheeran finally stepped onto the stage, the entire stadium erupted with cheers.
Keira shared that was her favourite part. “I sang my heart out along with everyone else, completely caught up in the moment.”
From fan favourites like Shape of You and Don’t, to Keira’s top pick, Bad Habits, the night was filled with energy, music and unforgettable memories.
“It truly was the best night ever” Keira explained. “I’m so glad I went.”
But the concert itself was only part of the adventure.
With support from her long-time support worker Linda, Keira turned the event into a special weekend getaway in Sydney. Together they explored the city, enjoyed a delicious lunch and spent the afternoon soaking up the atmosphere while counting down the hours until the show began.
For Linda, who has supported Keira for more than ten years, being there to share the experience made the moment even more meaningful.
“I felt honoured to walk beside her for this victory” Linda said.
Over the years, Linda has supported Keira through many milestones, but watching her achieve something she had dreamed about for so long made the night particularly special.
Keira has been part of the Unisson community for almost a decade, accessing both Supported Living and Community Access supports. During that time, she has grown in confidence and self-belief, building the skills to make choices about how she spends her time and what experiences she wants to pursue.
Living with cerebral palsy and an intellectual disability can sometimes make navigating large public events more complex, but with thoughtful planning and the right support, these experiences become not only possible, but exciting.
At Unisson, supporting people to access their community is about creating opportunities for people with disability to take part in the moments that bring excitement, connection and joy, whether that’s exploring a new city, discovering new hobbies, or singing along with thousands of fans at a stadium concert.
For Keira, music has always been one of those joys.
When she’s not out in the community, she enjoys creating colourful diamond dot artworks, carefully placing each sparkling piece until the image slowly comes to life. She also loves reading, relaxing with music and singing along to her favourite artists.
Alongside Ed Sheeran, another favourite is the global pop sensation BTS.
So it’s no surprise that she’s already thinking about her next concert adventure.
When BTS returns to Australia, Keira says she’ll be ready.
The morning after the concert, while enjoying breakfast and reflecting on the night before, Keira realised she had just ticked off one of her biggest bucket list goals: attending a stadium concert surrounded by thousands of fans.
Moments like this are powerful. For many people with disability, accessing the community and participating in large events can sometimes feel out of reach. With the right support, those barriers can be removed, opening the door to experiences that build confidence, independence and a sense of belonging.
For Keira, the night was more than just a concert. It was a reminder that her goals, interests and dreams matter.
