“We’ve found James to be very hardworking,” says employment facilitator Karlie, who has been on this journey with James. “He has improved his skills over time and improved his confidence too.”
James nods, “Yeah, I have.” 😊
“Why are you excited to work at Hornsby?” asks Karlie, who provides task oversight and manages the workflows and team dynamics for the supported employees at Hornsby Hub.
“It’s closer to home,” says James, “Just a 15-20 minute walk. Plus, there’s more chances to gain new skills and it’s a more relaxing environment. I prefer office jobs to warehouse ones.”
The Hornsby Hub gives James the opportunity to get to know a broader range of people at Unisson, from our executive team to corporate teams and client services. He’s getting to know everyone over lunch or a cup of tea. As they settle into their new workplace dynamic, Karlie notes. “James just needs a little bit of encouragement. You give him a task, and he gets it done. We just need to prioritise the work—and keep him safe and positive.”
Meanwhile, James is relishing his new responsibilities. “My new tasks include mail sorting, bank statements, and scanning documents into our system.”
“We are going to support James to do more of that sort of work in the future, which is his ultimate work YES,” says Karlie.
Thinking about his future, James shares, “I’d like to do more admin type work. Maybe try to use my Diploma in accounting skills and Certificate 4 for bookkeeping which I did at Ultimo TAFE.”
James and Karlie have found a work rhythm that suits them both. “We’re a good team,” Karlie says, glancing over at James with a smile.
“Karlie keeps the fun 😄 going with jokes!” adds James.
“He’s a hard worker; one of the best,” affirms Karlie.
