On 3 December, the Central Coast came alive as more than 500 people with disability, families, students, supporters, and allies gathered at the Unisson Fun Fair to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). This year’s theme, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress”, set the tone for a day dedicated to inclusion, connection, and community participation.
We were also deeply honoured to be joined by State Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch, and Central Coast Mayor, Lawrie McKinna, who brought warmth, encouragement, and genuine support to a day centred on inclusion and celebrating the contributions of people with disability across our community. While the NDIS can create real complexities for service providers and the people we support, on the 3rd it felt wonderfully simple: joy, visibility, and strong advocacy from our local leaders as we work toward a more inclusive, supportive future.
As the gates opened, the Gosford Showground came alive. People of all ages and abilities explored an incredible range of activities, so many, in fact, you needed a map to plan your entire day of fun!
We were thrilled to welcome so many local service providers and sponsors, each helping to bring the day to life. Families had the chance to connect with a wide range of disability supports available locally, all while enjoying the Fun Fair atmosphere. It was a powerful reminder of how amazing community truly is when we come together.
Visitors enjoyed a huge variety of accessible and inclusive activities designed for everyone to join in. From the petting zoo (where an adventurous goat briefly turned the day into a comedy show) to colourful face painting and temporary tattoos, there truly was something for everyone. Crowds gathered for energetic live performances by PerformAbility, and of course, the now-legendary Dunk Tank, where our brave CEO and leadership team took the plunge to everyone’s delight.
NDIS participants and students lined up with huge smiles, each taking their turn to dunk our CEO… some with impressive aim, others with pure determination, creating one of the most talked-about moments of our Fun Fair.
Every corner of the showground brought something new to discover. The laughter was loud, the smiles were contagious, and the sense of belonging was unmistakable. IDPwD is an important reminder of what true inclusion looks like: accessible spaces, community connection, and celebrating the strengths and talents of people of all abilities.
At Unisson, we believe everyone deserves to live life their way, with the right support, opportunities, and environments to thrive. Events like our Fun Fair showcase our commitment to creating welcoming, inclusive spaces for clients, families, service providers, and the broader community.
